Walks

1.      There is a klompenpad (a clog path, which generally means the path is unpaved, so grassland, woodland etc.) called Wageningse Engpad. The route is approx. 13 km, but there is also a kids’ path which is approx. 4.2 km.

2.      City walk: Proef Wageningen. Around 5 km, through the centre of Wageningen and along the river Rhine. Starting point is in front of Hotel De Wereld (5 Meiplein 1). Unfortunately the website is not in English, but online translation tools will help.

3.      City walk: ‘City of Liberation’. This route is 3 km and takes you past various historic sites.

4.      Art route around Wageningen University Campus. The brochure is in Dutch and English.

5.      De Blauwe Kamer. This is a nature area between Wageningen and Rhenen. It’s a beautiful place, with bird hides, Galloway cattle and Konik horses. There is a 3-kilometre walk, marked with green signs. For more information, see the website of De Blauwe Kamer. There is also a visitors’ centre, with food and drink and a beautiful view of the area.

6.      The Dutch railway company (NS) has various walks on its website, one of which is the ‘Belmonte’ route: a 10- or 16-kilometre route from Ede to Wageningen. This is not a circular route like the ones above.

Museums, zoos etc.

 1.      Sculpture Gallery Het Depot (free of charge ) Het Depot - Sculpture Gallery in Wageningen

2.      Belmonte Arboretum Home - Belmonte Arboretum

3.      Dutch Open Air Museum in Arnhem. Authentic buildings, objects and true stories capture the history of everyday life in the Netherlands over the past two hundred years. Nederlands Openluchtmuseum

4.      Ouwehands Zoo in Rhenen. Around 6 kilometres from Wageningen, this is the only zoo in the Netherlands with giant pandas. De natuur roept - Ouwehands Dierenpark

5.      Burgers’ Zoo in Arnhem. Welcome to Burgers' Zoo!

Second World War / military history

1.      Grebbeberg War Cemetery. Rhenen, Militair Ereveld Grebbeberg | Oorlogsgravenstichting. There is also a signposted walk that takes you past a reconstructed troop trench. It starts from the cemetery car park.

2.      National Military Museum in Soesterberg. Nationaal Militair Museum | Ontdek de militaire geschiedenis

3.      Airborne Museum Hartenstein in Oosterbeek. This museum tells the story of the Battle of Arnhem, part of Operation Market Garden. Airborne Museum - Het museum over de Slag om Arnhem
